What are the keys to good grades on law school exams?
Q. Obviously, one has to use the I.R.A.C. method when answering law school exams. However, beyond IRAC'ing, what can one do to get good law school exam results. Please, only serious replies. Thanks!
A. ( Answer by readers )
1) Do the reading. (this might go without saying at some schools, but not at mine, sadly)
2) Write your own outlines. If your final is open book, then write out your rule statements beforehand so all you have to do is copy them. You have enough to think about other than how to phrase the rule.
3) Talk to your professors and try to get an idea on how they think. I've had mixed success on this, but my best grade so far was in a class where I made it my mission to get into the Prof's head. I was able to predict several of the issues in the exam and, for the ones I didn't predict, I knew exactly how he would approach them. Be shameless about using terms that the professor seems to be in love with and quoting them if necessary. This is why it's incredibly useful to pay close attention in class; if you can mention something that the professor said in class, then they know you were listening and not surfing the internet on your laptop.
4) If your professor makes past exams available, do them beforehand. One of my professors did this, and our final was pretty much the same as the past exam, but with a different fact pattern. That's how I got my first A, in a class I hated, no less (Civil Procedure...you are the bane of my existence!).
5) Outline your answers before you write them out. Every time I skip this step, my grade suffers because of it. Every time I do it, I get an A. Go figure.
6) Come to a conclusion, but hedge your bets. Say what you think the outcome would be, but mention what the other outcome is and why it could be legitimate.
7) After you get your grades, ask to see your exam and go over it with your professor so you can have a better idea of what your problem areas are. For example, I had the same professor for Trusts and Estates and Business Associations one semester. I felt really good about the second exam, but not so great about the first. However, I got an A in Trusts and a B in BA, which made absolutely no sense to me. So, I went to his office and looked at my exams. I thought I was still blowing the essays (the exams were half multiple choice -- with up to 11 choices per question -- and half essay), but it turned out that I had nailed the essays, but had completely bombed the BA exam's multiple choice portion (essentially, a got a high A on the essay, but a D on the multiple choice). Essentially, you can't fix your problem until you know what it is.
8) I'm sort of ambivalent about study groups. Sometimes they help, sometimes not. My grades have markedly improved since I stopped being in a study group for every class.
9) Have a ritual for exam day. Mine is this: I get to school early and do some last minute reviewing. Then, 30 minutes before the exam starts, I go outside and listen to a particular song ("Chinese Apple" by Loose Fur...it completely mellows me out). I keep playing that song on my mp3 player until the proctors start talking. I do not talk to anyone for that 30 minutes. The last thing you want in your head is someone else freaking out about the exam or spewing (usually) innaccurate information.
10) Your answers should almost be robotic. You don't have time for fluff or flowery language. Say what you need to say, and get the hell out of there (e.g. the opposite of what I am doing now).
11) This one comes from the professor I work for (the one I mentioned in #3) as a reasearch assistant: he said he hates it when students cite the right facts, the right rule, and the right conclusion but fail to tell him why the facts are the right ones. In his words, "Explain it to me, dammit!" (this was said about his 1L class, not me) So, mention the relevant facts and say why they are important. For bonus points, mention the irrelevant facts (every professor throws in a couple of red herrings) and say why they are irrelevant. An example: in my Criminal Procedure exam, the suspect told the police the bag he was carrying wasn't his. In my exam, I wrote something to the effect of "X told the police that the bag was not his, which is irrelevant because it was in his possession." Some people, no doubt, thought that fact was important and probably wasted time talking about it in detail; they lost points. Other people probably thought it was irrelevant (like I did), but didn't mention it at all; they didn't get any points for it. I, on the other hand, thought it was irrelevant and said why it was irrelevant; I got points for it.
I hope I don't sound too obsessed with A's, although I probably am. My first semester sucked, so I'm still in shock that I've managed to drag my GPA out of the gutter. The power has gone completely to my head....I'm due for a fall back to earth at some point in the near future.

A. 1. Make mnemonics for all the headings preferably on the side of the same book or notes studying so that you don't have to keep another thing with you .
2. Always drink excessive water it reduces stress .
3. Always use some kind of multivitamins when you are near to exam it will give you extra energy then other candidate .
4. Be committed and always smile .
5. Don't waste time on what you don't understand this should be done before exam days.keep it for the end complete rest all first then go for it preferably with some other student who knows it so that you can save your time.
6. Always start paper with a theoretical and the easiest question once you start things come on track themselves
7. Read carefully know that there is difference between words Explain, Elaborate, State, and list etc.reply as the question asks you don't write long explanations when word list down is written in question .
8. Never come out of exam before time.if you finished help others then :P .
9. Always make all your stuff ready for the exam a day before so that you don't have to waste time on that..
10. Try drink milk before going to exam or any thing that could add energy.

Q. Shall I do BCA from IP or Bachelor of Arts in Tourism from Amity University is better?Please help!!!!!

Amity University is a fully government recognized University with the right to confer degrees as the per sections 2f and 22(1) of the UGC Act.

First check whether the certificates given by these universities are recognized by University Grants Commission, New Delhi, otherwise you will have to suffer a lot because of non-recognition as far as your getting into government or semi-government corporations. As far as your desire of faculty, I think you it would be better for you to go for BCA which is presently in much demand. Tourism can be done even after getting BCA, because tourism section is solely applicable with the degrees. For that you must obtain communication skill which is much important for a girl. Think about it

Please tell me how is AMITY (noida) for B.Tech in EC. How are its Placements?
Q. I have been offered direct admission B.Tech in AMITY Noida campus on the basis of my XII marks. (94% in PCM). Should i go for it? As i got only 70000 rank in AIEEE and did not fill many forms, i will have to drop one year otherwise. I have heard its courses are not AICTE approved. Does it matter? That is how much package should i expect once I graduate from it?

Which one of the two is better for mba? amity or army institute for management kolkata?
Q. I have been selected for mba(ib) in amity nad mba in kolkata .Please tell in terms of faculty,placements etc.

- A more disciplined approach to your education
- A more diverse training regime
- A tougher educational program
- A career when you graduate
- A solid proven history that any employer would want when you have done your military service
- It will open heaps more doors for you after you leave.

If I was an employer looking at 2 potential employees with the same degrees in a discipline I would take the military university graduate every time .no exceptions.

What would be the expected cut off for aipmt 2008?
Q. I calculated my score with the solutions online and i am getting about 265 on 600.
Thats 44%
What are my chances at the preliminaries then?
I know last years was 285 but I've been hearing that the cutoffs will go lower this time.

Anna University was established on 4th September 1978 as a unitary type of University. It offers higher education in Engineering, Technology and allied Sciences relevant to the current and projected needs of the society.Besides promoting research and disseminating knowledge gained therefrom, it fosters cooperation between the academic and industrial communities.The University was formed by bringing together and integrating two well-known technical institutions in the city of Madras.

* Alagappa College of Technology (ACT)(1944)
* School of Architecture and Planning (SAP)(1957)
Situated in the southern part of the city of Madras (Chennai), the University's main campus extends over 100 hectares abutting the Adyar River on the north and Raj Bhavan on the south. The Madras Institute of Technology at Chrompet constitutes the second campus of the University which extends over 20 hectares. Both the campuses have a variety of buildings serving the various needs of the University community. A third campus extending over 80 hectares is located at Taramani near the Instronic campus, Adyar. The Bioprocess Laboratory donated by SPIC is located at present in this campus and a few more centers of advanced studies, like National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Sugar Research Institute, Mechatronics Institute, Entreprenuership Development Park, and Convention Centre will also be housed there in future.
Since December 2001,it has become a large, highly renowned affiliated University, having brought into its fold about 225 Self-financing Engineering Colleges six Government Colleges and three Government-aided Engineering colleges located in various parts of Tamilnadu State.
STATUS
The Anna University ,which is of the affiliated type is a member of the Association of Indian Universities, the Association of Commonwealth Universities and Partner of UNESCO International Center for Engineering Education (UICEE). UGC have accrediated Anna University with Five Star Status in 2002 which is the highest rating. With proven capabilities both in academic and research areas, Anna University was able to receive this honour for a period of five years for excellence in Technical Education.
